The estate of « Domaine du Moustoir » , a former 13 acres traditional brittany farm, has been totally planted 40 years ago with different trees species, as red oaks from america, beeches,maple trees,sequoïas, cypresses,pine trees,hazel trees ,walnut trees, poplars,ashes trees, red alders,rhododendrons, etc.
It is now a private forest, contributing to maintain an original ecosytem and developing a proper balance in the environment as CO2 storage, water filtration, oxygen production, air filtration.
Diversity in trees species in Brittany is the result of history.The Roman began to provide chesnuts, walnuts and even grapewine.Then, navy sailors brought others exotics seeds from their travels.
Nowadays, the forest in Brittany covers about 332.000 hectares, or 12% of it’ s total surface.
Let’s remind that « argoat » in Celtic means the interior region of brittany once entirely covered with forest, opposed to « armor » which means all the coastal areas, where Domaine du Moustoir is situated.
The private forest of our estate provides also biodiversity, being a true shelter for wildlife, as a couple of deers, 2 or three foxes, owls, a large amount of birds, and has a very rich flora too.
Residents and their pets are welcome to walk around the property or to practise their outdoor morning physical exercices along this little forest, before rushing to the heated swimming pool and having their breakfast in their holiday rentals, gites, cottages, villa, mobile-homes.
